Thou Has Delivered My Soul

Psalms 40:2: He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.

Psalms 86:12-13: I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify thy name for evermore. 13 For great is thy mercy toward me: and thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest hell.

Psalms 103:10: He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.

Do those joyful words melt your heart with joy? If we understand that the Lord has delivered our souls from the lowest Hell it should certainly bring joy to our hearts. Do you know that you and I deserve the lowest Hell? Knowing that he deserved the lowest Hell but was delivered from it gave King David the right perspective. Life here and now can be terribly difficult but it is not the lowest Hell. Notice the enemies that the man after God*s own heart had and especially notice His understanding that God helped Him and comforted Him.

Psalms 86:14-17: O God, the proud are risen against me, and the assemblies of violent men have sought after my soul; and have not set thee before them. 15 But thou, O Lord, art a God full of compassion, and gracious, longsuffering, and plenteous in mercy and truth. 16 O turn unto me, and have mercy upon me; give thy strength unto thy servant, and save the son of thine handmaid. 17 Shew me a token for good; that they which hate me may see it, and be ashamed: because thou, LORD, hast holpen me, and comforted me.

The thing that can make life here and now unbearable is the wrongful belief that we deserve something better. The fact is that we deserve something far worse.
